Veteran Fiji winger Rupeni Caucaunibuca, who has put an end to his eight-year stay in France, wants to play sevens rugby in Sri Lanka, reports claimed Thursday.

The 34-year-old was released from his contract at second division Agen. Their president Alain Tingaud said the winger has his sights set on becoming a sevens player ahead of the 2016 Olympics where rugby will make its debut.

“He wants to test himself in sevens, a style of rugby which is growing significantly in view of the Olympic Games,” Tingaud told newspaper Sud Ouest.

Caucaunibuca’s 14-year career, which has seen him play six years at Agen and two with Toulouse, starred at the 2003 World Cup in Australia and was twice top try-scorer in the French Top 14.

But his time in France was also controversial with disciplinary problems including a positive drugs test for cannabis, visa issues as well as late returns to training.
