A fierce battle is raging at the Singhalese sports club for the premier league title with the SSC taking on Moors SC in a four day game today being the penultimate day.

Shehan Jayasuriya scored the highest runs in the Moors 1st innings (68) but he was brilliantly caught by Shanka off the bowling of Jayampathi. M. I. Ghouse scored a quick fire 31 which included 5 boundaries. He was Jayampathi’s second victim. L.J.P Gunarathne 42 and P C de Silva 51 added to the total. M.D. Gunathilaka. representing Singhalese Sports Club was the destroyer with 4 wickets.
When the time came for the hosts, visitors were floundering and the SSCr first inning closed at 324 runs in an 83 overs vigil. J K Silva scored a mammoth 171 in 240 balls and Tharanga Paranavithana held out for 25 runs in 51 balls. Thilina Kandamby 33 and Prasad 47 topped up the batting. Dilhara Lokuhettige took honours in the bowling removing 4 for 77 runs while V Perera took 3 for 86.
Moors SC put up a better show the second time around ending the day at 320 runs for 7 wickets. Displaying some aggressive hitting Lokuhettige blasted 78 runs. Indika De Saram remains to fight another day not out on 89. Dhammika Prasad took 3 for 61.
The match hangs in balance and a result will depend on how fast SSC can dislodge the remaining batting and chase a gettable score
