FFSL to restructure Futsal in Sri Lanka

356

Undoubtedly the most popular sport in the world “football” has been a part of the Sri Lankan sporting culture for centuries. This passion for soccer in our nation evolves from the schools level right to the professional arena.

The modern game of football takes many shapes where in fact the five a side form of the sport “Futsal” is gaining immense popularity in the present context of Sri Lanka. With the emergence of more and more tournament on national and provincial level “Futsal” has been soon catching on as the new trend in football.

Hence the promotion of this form of football amongst the youth & professionals footballers of Sri Lanka is long overdue. Therefore we the Football Federation of Sri Lanka believe that it is the prime time to make futsal more prominent in Sri Lanka.

The newly appointed President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka along with his office bearers and Members of Executive Committee have come up with an elaborate and profound plan to make this dream a reality. We’ve set out a clear vision of giving great prominence to futsal in order to make it something everyone will soon be familiar with. .

Futsal could effectively be a form of football that our nation Sri Lanka could be highly competitive at in the Asian level and even internationally.  The limited space and limited time factors in this form of soccer brings out the best in most players where they might be able to reach greater heights with regard to their talents. We believe the impact that Sri Lanka as a nation have a much higher probability of being successfully in the arena of Futsal than the normal form of 11 a side football. Physicality has always been an Achilles heel of the Sri Lankan football team and we believe that in the case of futsal it will not be so.

This endeavor by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka hopes to bring the popularity of football in our nation to a whole different level. Although the FFSL consist of a willing set of individuals enthusiastic of the sport the lack of funds to carry out most of the proposed projects is a major setback.

We urge FIFA to assist our nation to rise in this sport and develop football in our nation. One of the most recent projects proposed are an International Level Futsal Stadium to boost the level of performance of futsal in Sri Lanka, necessary Technical Assistance and Futsal Balls, at the recent meeting held with Mr.Sapp Blatter, President, FIFA by our President, Mr.Ranjith Rodrigo.
