The SLRFU announced on Friday that Navy SC skipper Yoshitha Rajapakse has been retained as the captain for the upcoming Asian five Nations tournament in April.

Fazil Marija who was the captain of the sevens team has been appointed as his deputy. ThePapare.com managed to speak to Fazil Marija regarding his thoughts on the appointment of Yoshitha as captain.

“First of all I’m happy that I have been selected as the vice captain of the side. It’s always an honor to play for your country and to be the vice captain of the side is overwhelming.

“I will go all out and get the team to play to their true potential”, said the Sri Lanka vice captain.

Yoshitha has shown his leadership skills at both at club level and international level leading Sri Lanka in the last A5N and Navy in the domestic league and knock out tournaments.

Marija sustained a knee injury during last year’s Singapore sevens tournament which prevented him from playing during day two. When asked about the status of his injury he said, “I’m still not a hundred percent fit!

I have been training with the squad, however I’m still in the recovery stage. I have been running which is a good sign, but there’s a slight niggle which has kept me from training properly.

The Tuskers will take part in the Asian Five Nations tournament in April this year which will feature Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei and Thailand. Thailand and Kazakstan have made bids to host the tournament together with Sri Lanka.
