Blue Star having one of the best defense in the tournament failed to protect their goal in their quarter final match against the Renown SC at the Longdon Place grounds as Renown beat Blue Star 1-0 to reach the semi finals of the Dialog Champions league.
Renown SC were under pressure from the very beginning of the game as Blue Star strikers S.Sanjeev, Arubisha O.Daniel and Afeez Olayemi kept on shooting the ball to the goal post. The strikers were rushing and disrupting the Renown defenders who failed to clear the ball to the other half. Renown goal keeper Lorance Prince, performed very well saved the ball from reaching the nets. Especially when striker Sanjeev headed a few balls goalwards. Renown SC skipper M.Fazal and his striker Fazul Rahuman along with the wingers Dilan De Silva and M.Nafeer outplayed the defenders of Blue Star.
Both the teams had no goal in the end of the first half though they missed a number of goal scoring opportunities.
From the start of the second half Renown SC were on track. Strikers Fazal and Fazul played some brilliant football. Fazul supplied the ball to both the wingers from the center half who failed to score. In the 73rd minute Dilan crossed the ball from a corner kick straight to the penalty box, defender Nasiru Opeymi failed to clear the ball and Fazal took his chance to score the goal. Though Blue Star tried there level best to score a goal, Goal keeper Lorance prince saved his team.
