Fatal accident claims life of former Sri Lanka A cricketer

Former Sri Lanka A and Colts Women’s representative Poojani Liyanage succumbed to her injuries after being involved in a fatal motor accident in Katupotha, Kurunegala earlier today (15th).

33-year-old Liyanage was a veteran in the domestic game, representing Colts Cricket Club as well as the Sri Lanka Development Squad and Sri Lanka A team during her career, as a leg spinner and lower middle order batter. However, her ultimate goal of representing the national team went unfulfilled. Despite being unable to break into the national team, Liyanage found her passion in becoming a scorer at the Sri Lanka Cricket Scorers Association.

Former skipper Chamani Seneviratne stranded in the UAE

Former national skipper and teammate of the deceased, Shashikala Siriwardene confirmed to Newswire that Liyanage met her demise when the motorbike she was traveling on collided with another vehicle.
