Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu smashes a 52-ball century in the opener of the inaugural FairBreak Invitational Tournament, to take her side Falcons to a comfortable win over the Warriors.
Both Sri Lankan representatives featured for their respective sides yesterday but had contrasting returns, with Udeshika Prabodhani going for 30 in her 3 overs for the Warriors, while Athapaththu’s 107, helped the Falcons chase down 177 with 8 balls to spare. Her innings included 13 fours and 5 maximums.
The Warriors’ total was set up by half centuries from openers Georgia Redmayne (Aus) and Hayley Matthews (WI). The pair put on 90 for the 1st wicket as the Warriors ended with 177/2 in their 20 overs.
The Falcons began the chase with their 2 best players, skipper Suzie Bates (NZ) and Athapaththu and the pair did not disappoint, putting on 133 for the first wicket, before the latter kicked on to help them to a comfortable win for the loss of just 2 wickets.
