Faf du Plessis, South Africa’s Test and T20I captain, will miss the upcoming T20I series against England as he will return home for the birth of his first child, according to reports. Du Plessis is hopeful of returning to England ahead of the Test series, that starts on July 6.
It was also reported that big names like Hashim Amla and JP Duminy, among other players, will miss the three-match T20I series and will return home for a break before the four-match Test series.
Meanwhile, AB de Villiers, who has taken an indefinite break from Test cricket, is expected to feature in the T20I squad which South Africa will announce later this week.
South Africa’s United Kingdom sojourn has been a forgettable one so far. The No. 1 ranked ODI team suffered a 2-1 defeat to England in the three-match 50-over series before losses to Pakistan and India condemned them to an early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
The three-match T20I series against England begins on June 21 in Southampton, followed by matches in Taunton and Cardiff on June 23 and 25 respectively. The Test series gets underway from July 6 with Lord’s hosting the opening Test.
