Sri Lanka’s celebrated pugilist, Manju Wanniarachchi says he has decided to re-enter the boxing ring.

In an exclusive interview with ThePapare.com, Wanniarachchi made this statement, saying that his first game after serving the two-year ban would be the upcoming National Boxing Championship in December.

Manju Wanniarachchi had earlier announced his retirement from boxing, as he was charged by the Commonwealth Games Federation, for having used a banned drug named ‘Nandrolone*’, at the Men’s 56kg bantam weight Final match in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. Wanniarachchi defeated his counterpart: Sean McGoldrick of Wales and dressed himself with a Gold Medal, which was the only Gold medal from the Commonwealth Games in 2010 for Sri Lanka, and the one awarded to Sri Lanka after a lapse of 72 years, in the country’s boxing history.

In this exclusive interview, Manju Wanniarachchi is questioned about his decision to resign from boxing and what had caused him to take such an excruciating turn-around in his boxing career. Wanniarachchi also explains how he changed his mind to reverse his decision and return to the game he loves the most.

He also reveals the concluding events of his trials before the Commonwealth Games Federation, once he was alleged of using the banned substance, in the final game.
