While the Premadasa Stadium gets ready to host the first t20 international between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, a similar encounter between the two nations will take place today at the Negombo tennis courts, that being the finals of the Negombo Open B Grade tournament clash between Sanka Atukorale & Heera Ashiq.
Defending national champion Pakistani national Heera Ashiq has been the center of attention in the Sri Lankan tennis arena ever since the start of this year. This will be his second successive final that he got access to alongside the Colombo Championships.
Ashiq saw his way to the finals in the Men’s open defeating Guyanga Weerasekara 6-2,6-2 in the semi finals while national seed Sanka Atukorale saw his entry when he defeated Duminda Dilum 6-3,6-3. The finals of the Men’s open will be played this morning at the Negombo courts and as per the prediction, it will be a Pakistan victory at Negombo.
Meanwhile Luca Emmanuel Knese will face Niroshan Perera in the under 18 Boy’s singles final which is also set to take place in the Negombo center court this afternoon. Disappointingly there have been no entries for the Women’s doubles or the Girl’s Under 18 category primarily due to the 100th Nationals being round the corner.
