Most of the English batsmen had decent hits in their 1st Tour Match, which concluded in a tame draw at the Marians Cricket Ground (MCG) in Katunayake today (9th March).
Resuming their second innings on 39/1, the Englishmen went on to post 320/7 when it was decided for the game to be called-off.
Young batsmen Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope spent some valuable time in the middle ahead of their Test series against Sri Lanka, with both batsmen making half-centuries. While Crawley was unfortunate to be dismissed on 91, Pope looked fluent in his knock of 77.
Priyanjan stars for SLC XI as English spinners warm-up well
Ben Stokes also looked in decent touch during his knock of 43 runs for the visitors, while Ben Foakes remained unbeaten for the second time in the match (27* & 23*).
Right-arm seamer Kavishka Anjula picked up two wickets in the second innings for the Sri Lanka Cricket XI to end up with four in the match, while Duvindu Tillakaratne, who has had an impressive start to the SLC Premier League Tier A Tournament with the ball, also captured two wickets.

It is interesting to note that out of the 17 Englishmen wickets fallen in the whole match, 11 were picked up by the fast bowlers of the SLC XI.
Earlier in the match, Ashan Priyanjan’s 77 helped Sri Lanka make a 246 all-out in reply to England’s 316 all-out in their first innings.

England will be playing their second and final Tour Match when they meet the Sri Lanka Board President’s XI in a four day match that begins on the 12th of March at the P. Sara Oval.
