England break Sri Lanka's 10-year old ODI record

Alex Hales hit a brutal 171 against Pakistan to break the record for the highest individual one-day international score by an Englishman.

England ended on 444 for 3 from their 50 overs.

The opener amassed his score from just 122 balls, in which he struck 22 fours and four sixes.

He rode his luck at times as he was caught off a no-ball when he was on 72 and then later dropped by Azhar Ali.

Jos Buttler also scored England’s quickest ODI 50 as the hosts eased past Sri Lanka’s 10-year old record of highest ODI total. The previous best was 443 by Sri Lanka against Netherlands in 2006.
