Here’s a wrap-up on the 3rd day’s play in the Super 8 and Plate matches which took place today in the SLC Tier A Premier League

NCC vs Colts 

Lasith Ambuldeniya’s 10 wicket haul helped NCC register a convincing 6 wicket victory against Colts at Katunayake. Colts were 149 for 5 at stumps on day 2 but they couldn’t bat long enough to post a formidable lead in the second innings. Priyamal Perera and Vishad Randika were the only two batsmen who showed some sort of a resistance in the middle order. The star of the match was none other than former Royal College left arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya. He took 4 scalps in the second innings to go with his 6-for in the first. Jehan Mubarak also took 4 scalps in the second innings for NCC as they cleaned up Colts for just 222 runs. 

NCC had an easy target of just 108 to get and they did it in just 23.1 overs with 6 wickets intact. Lahiru Udara top scored with 45 runs. 

Early on Colts were bowled out for just 192 runs with Embuldeniya taking 5 wickets. In reply NCC made 307 runs.

Army vs Tamil Union

Soldiers defeated the reigning champions by an innings and 30 runs today at SSC grounds. Tamil Union were cleaned up in their second innings for just 179 runs after they resumed play on the 3rd day with 72 for 3 on board. Manoj Sarathchandra and Chamika Karunarathne were the only two players who went past the 20 run mark for Tamil Union in the first innings. Both scored fighting half centuries but it was not enough to save their side. With the ball in hand Nalin Priyadarshana and Yashoda Mendis bagged 3 wickets each for Army. 

Early on, Tamil Union was cleaned up 174 runs with Yashoda Mendis taking 4 with the new ball. In reply Army posted a formidable first innings total 383 runs.

SSC vs Ragama 

Ragama succumbed to an 8 wicket defeat against SSC at R Premadasa today. SSC was 332 for 9 at stumps but thanks to a brilliant cameo of 66 by Tharindu Rathnayake helped them reach 389 all out for their first innings. Ragama came on to bat in the second innings and they kept loosing wickets at regular intervals. Lahiru Milantha was the lone warrior up the order with 63 but there wasn’t much support for him from the rest. Lahiru Thirimanne was out of the game due to an injury which also affected the Ragama batting line up. Despite the fight back from Chathura Peiris and Sahan Nanayakkara, Ragama was bowled out for just 201 runs. Sachithra Senanayake was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 46 while Vimukthi Perera and Kasun Madushanka shared 2 wickets each. 

SSC were given a target of just 33 runs which they chased down in just 4.4 overs with 8 wickets intact. 

Early on Ragama was bowled out for 220 runs with Akshu Fernando scoring 95 and Vimukthi Perera taking a 5-for.

Chilaw Marians vs CCC 

Chilaw registered a mammoth 366 run victory against CCC at Surrey Village grounds. Chilaw were cruising in their second inning yesterday and the unbeaten overnight stand between Sachithra Serasinghe and Vidura Adikari continued to dominate in the morning session. The pair added 227 runs for the 3rd wicket before Adikari was dismissed for 101 runs, but the stand out innings came from Serasinghe who carried on to make 207 runs which helped Chilaw Marians post 461 for 9 for their second innings. His knock came off 293 balls with 21 boundaries. 

CCC were given a massive target of 485 runs to get in their second innings but they fell way short thanks to a brilliant spell of bowling by Malinda Pushpakumara who bagged 7 wickets and cleaned up CCC for just 118 runs. Pushpakumara’s match figures stood at 10 for 109, a superlative performance by the experience fast bowler. 

Early on, Chilaw made 213 for their first innings and in reply CCC was bowled out for just 190 runs.

Bloomfield vs Saracens 

Despite a tense final session this match ended in a draw at Colts Grounds. Bloomfield was 135 for 4 at stumps on day 2. They went on to make 380 all out for their second innings thanks to half centuries from Adeesha Nanayakkara, Thiran Dhanapala and Nipun Karunanayke. Kasun Rajitha was yet again amongst the wicket with 5 for 152. 

Saracens were given an impossible target of 237 runs to get in 10 overs. Despite the fall of 4 quick wickets they managed to survive and save the match. 

Early on, Bloomfield made 207 for their first innings and in reply Saracens posted 351 for their first innings.

BRC vs Badureliya 

BRC took first innings points in their match against Badureliya which concluded today at Army grounds. Badureliya were on their way to earn a first innings win but they lost all their wickets just 11 runs short. Pathum Madushanka and Duvindu Thilakarathne added 72 for the last wicket with Duvindu scoring 32 runs. Pathum remained unbeaten on 78. 

At stumps on the final day, BRC were 278 for 7 in their second innings with half centuries from Thilakarathne Sampath and Chanaka Wijesinghe. 

Early on, BRC made 357 all out for their first innings with a brilliant century from Rumesh Buddika.

Moors vs Galle

This match too ended in a tame draw at BRC grounds. Moors resumed play with 26 for 1 on the last day and they managed to bat out the whole day thanks some good contributions from the batsmen. Ruvindu Gunasekara top scored with 55 for Moors. At stumps their score stood at 238 for 5. 

Early on, Moors were bowed out for 175 runs and in reply Galle made 310 for 9 in their first innings.
