This year’s tournament will be held in a similar fashion across the two legs and the organizers have made it a point to have the local teams participating in the first leg, intensifying the competition.
Eight teams have confirmed their participation for the Kandy leg, including St. Anthony’s College, Kingswood College, Isipathana College, Trinity College, Dharmaraja College, Science College, St. Peter’s College and St. Joseph’s College.
These eight teams will be playing the series in a similar format to the main draw and will later advance to Plate and Cup segments respectively.
Recently crowned under 20 sevens champions S. Thomas’ College opted to sit this series out but this will in no way diminish the competitiveness of the eight teams. This year’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers in the recently concluded sevens series; Isipathana, Trinity and Kingswood are set to field in their under 18 sides.
The tournament will provide the players who are on the verge of wearing their respective 1st XV colours an opportunity to shine.
