‘Earth Hour’, the global movement against climate change will be commemorated in the island nation on 29 March (Saturday) from 8:30-9:30pm, with the iconic switch-off event “Power Up Earth Hour”, scheduled to take place at the Coco Veranda, Crescat Boulevard premises from 7.30 – 10.30pm on March 29.

Last year, Earth Hour was celebrated with around 200 million people from 154 countries world-wide! The year 2014 marks the fifth consecutive year, where Earth Hour Sri Lanka gears up for the official celebrations in Sri Lanka.

“Power Up Earth Hour” will be jointly partnered by Coco Veranda, E FM, Leo Burnett, Colombo Taprobane Round Table 3 and ThePapare.com. Earth Hour Sri Lanka committee says “we will be ‘switching off and tuning in’ for an Acoustic Open Mic night. Let’s use our power to energize ‘Power Up Earth Hour’ and put Sri Lanka on the map as the world switches off for Earth Hour 2014!”

As opposed to previous years, Earth Hour 2014 will be activated under a unique theme – ‘Use Your Power and Be a Super Hero for the Planet’. The theme intends to recognize the actions taken by individuals, corporate establishments, and governments worldwide to reduce the impact of their day-to-day activities on the planet earth, thereby establishing and encouraging others to join and connect witth the global community engaged in dialogue, whilst sharing resources that generate real solutions to environmental challenges.
