Four matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.

St. Sebastian’s College, one of the strong contenders in Division 1 managed to record another first innings victory against D.S. Senanayake College in a Group A fixture which concluded today at Army grounds, Mattegoda. St. Sebastian’s College declared their first innings today at 331 runs for 8 wickets without adding any run to their overnight score.
D.S batsmen were bowled out cheaply for 117 runs in their first innings, while handing first innings points to Sebastian’s College. Vinuja Ranasinghe was the pick of the bowlers for the lads from Moratuwa, as he picked up 4 wickets for 34 runs. In addition, Tharusha Fernando and Gihan Senanayake picked up 2 wickets each.

Group D fixture between Ananda College and St. Sylvester’s College concluded today at Ananda College grounds. Even though the match ended in a draw, a strong batting line up gave Ananda College the crucial first innings points. Ananda College resumed day two on 18 runs for no wicket and batted really well to post 374 runs for 5 wickets on the board.

Right handed batsman Dushan Hettige top scored with a magnificent knock of 102 runs while Kamesh Nirmal (88) and Asel Sigera (67) chipped in with two valuable half-tons. Ananda batsmen made batting look very easy on their home turf scoring at a run rate of more than 5 runs per over in the innings.

Traditional fixture between Nalanda College and Thurstan College concluded today at Nalanda College grounds without a result. After being asked to bat first, Thurstan batsmen did really well to post a solid 278 runs on the board for their first innings.
