A fluent 107-run partnership between Dushan Hettige (62) and Sanjula Abeywickrama (44*) ensured a Western Province North victory as they beat Southern Province by 50 runs (D/L method) to win the Prima under 15 provincial tournament finals which took place today at SSC grounds.
Western Province North skipper Jehan Daniel won the toss of coin and invited Southern Province to bat first in the 45-over encounter. Left-handed opener Ravindu Sanjana and Kavindu Ediriweera performed well with bat for the Southerners with scores of 69 and 38 respectively to post a competitive total of 191 runs in 43.3 overs. The Western Province North bowling attack, led by seamer Jehan Daniel and Sanjula Illangathilaka resulted in both obtaining 3 scalps each.
With a target of 192 for the ultimate prize, the Western Province North batting was guided by Dushan Hettige and Sanjula Abeywickrama as they produced a match-winning partnership of 107 runs. Dushan Hettige made a fine knock of 64 while his partner Sanjula Abeywickrama remained unbeaten at 44 when the match was called off due to bad light. The WP North score stood at a commanding position of 139/2 after 26.5 overs when the game was ended pre-maturely and as per the D/L calculations, the match was awarded to Western Province North who won the same trophy last year as well.
