A rugby player, from the visiting Durham City Clem’s Pirates team, tragically passed away this morning after suffering from respiratory issues.
The team played their first game against CR & FC on Saturday (12th May) and headed back to their hotel with no apparent injury. But, on the following day (12th May) two players aged 26 and 27 were rushed to hospital, suffered from breathing difficulties. After several hours of medical attention one of the players tragically passed away earlier this morning. The other player is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Nawaloka Hospital.
The Clem’s Pirates Rugby Club of England arrived in the Island last Thursday (10th May) with the aim of playing a few friendly matches in Colombo and conducting a coaching camp for the schoolboy rugby players in Galle.
