Ralhum Trading Co Private limited, the official agents of Dunlop sporting equipment in Sri Lanka came forward to develop the Squash game in Sri Lanka by becoming the official Squash equipment and Ball provider.
The agreement made the agents, the official suppliers of such equipment at all the tournaments, coaching camps and other development programs conducted by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation for the next two years. A ceremony to mark the event was held at the light house galley with the participation of the officials of the Sri Lanka Squash Federation and Ralhum Trading Co Private Limited, coaches, parents and players.
Addressing the event the director of Ralhum trading, M M Mohomed pointed out the agreement as an opportunity for both the Federation and their company as the improvement of the game will benefit both the parties.
The Assistant Marketing manager of Ralhum Trading, Uzama Samsudeen addressing the event vowed to develop the game from the grass root level .He also mentioned the extra efforts the company has taken by coming forward to initiate a program to drive the sport to the next level in addition to helping deserving talented players in the country. The initiative is to improve the popularity of the game by promoting the game to schools around the country and thereby improving the standard of the game through active participation.
Speaking at the event the President of The Sri Lanka Squash Federation, Comodore Palitha Weerasinghe stressed the important role played by coaches in fine tuning young talent into stars. According to the President the future plans of the Federation in building the game consists of identifying 20 schools in the Colombo district which do not engage in the sport at present and introducing the game to students of such schools. The next step is to promote the game into other suburb and rural areas.
Three talented junior players who have performed exceptionally well in the domestic and Asian Arena were during the recent past were also awarded with sponsorship packages. Mihiliya Methsarani,Ravindu Laksiri and Shamil Wakeel received such sponsorships for their hard work and quality performance.
