Rooted in Wesley College’s rich sporting heritage, the Double Blue Hockey 7s continues to celebrate and elevate the legacy of hockey in Sri Lanka. Organised by the Old Wesleyites Sports Club (OWSC), this highly anticipated seven-a-side hockey tournament returns for its third consecutive year and is set to take place on the 26th of April 2025 at the Campbell Park, Wesley College Grounds. With an ever-growing following, the event will also be broadcasted live on ThePapare.com, allowing fans across the globe to be part of the excitement.
The tournament is played in honour of Walter Jayasuriya, affectionately known as the “Father of Sri Lanka Hockey” and a proud Wesleyite whose pioneering contributions laid the foundation for the sport in the country. The Walter Jayasuriya Trophy, awarded to the men’s champions, stands as a tribute to his enduring influence.
This year’s edition will see ten old boys’ teams and five old girls’ teams from leading hockey-playing schools competing in a thrilling day of action. Divisions will be contested for Cup, Plate, and Bowl championships in both the men’s and women’s categories. Additionally, individual accolades will be presented for Best Player and Best Goalie in each category, recognising standout performances and sportsmanship.

Since its inception, the Double Blue Hockey 7s has not only provided a platform for talented alumni players to relive their glory days but has also played a significant role in reviving the culture of competitive hockey among schools and old boys’/girls’ unions. The tournament brings together passionate athletes, schools’ alumni, and hockey fans to create an atmosphere brimming with energy, nostalgia, and camaraderie.
