Sri Lanka’s National record holder in the Men’s Javelin event once again proved his worth with a Silver medal at the World Para Athletics Championship 2019, currently onogoing in Dubai.

Herath, leading this year’s Para athletics team went in as the sole Lankan represent in a 13-man battle. With 6 attempts in front of him, Herath readied himself to hopefully better his performance from the previous edition, where he brought home Silver.
A stellar starting throw of 60.59m was all Herath needed to lock in a good solid lead at the beginning of the event, immediately positioning himself as an Alpha. The rest of Herath’s tries were in vain, however his first and only throw looked good enough to claim victory.
However, 23-year old Sundar Singh had plans of his own. With a best of 59.85m to his name up until his final throw which flipped the tables. With a miraculous throw of 61.22m, Sundar Singh shattered the Lankan’s dream of bringing home Gold.
Herath, with a heavy heart settled for another Silver medal with his distance of 60.59m. He won the Bronze medal back in 2016 and a Silver in the last edition.
