Sri Lanka Test opener Dimuth Karunarathne has suffered a fractured finger whilst batting in the nets yesterday (May 1st, 2018) in preparation for the SLC Super Provincial Limited Over Tournament.
Karunarathne led the Dambulla team in the Four-day Provincial tournament but managed only one half-century in six innings.
He was picked for the SLC Super Provincial Limited-overs tournament for the same team but may not be available for any games with the tour of West Indies also on the horizon.
“Karunaratne is expected to be examined by a medical specialist today (May 2nd, 2018) to determine the injury management and return to play timeframe.” SLC said in a press release.
The 30-year old left-hander has been the first-choice Test opener for Sri Lanka for several years. He averages 34 in 49 matches but has managed to notch up only one half-century in his last 10 Test innings.
