Colts Cricket Club won the season opener of the SLC Premier League Tier A tournament in style, beating Moors Sports Club by an innings and 77 runs at the Colts Cricket Club grounds today.
Resuming from their overnight score of 318/6, Colts went on to post a commanding 367 all out. The chief contributors for Colts were Captain Dilruwan Perera, Angelo Jayasinghe and Kanchana Gunawardane with impressive half centuries. The visiting skipper Kosala Kulasekara provided little resistance in bowling bagging 5/77 standing out for Moors.
In response, Moors in their first innings hardly gained any momentum as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Despite promising starts by Ruvindu Gunasekara, Tharindu Mendis and Dulaj Withanawasam no one went on to make a big one as Moors’ failed to gain emphasis. Eventually, they were bundled out for a mediocre 158 runs with left arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya leading the way for the hosts with a notable 4/40 while paceman Ishan Jayaratne chipped in with 3/32.
Colts wasted little time as they went in for the kill enforcing the follow-on looking to wrap things up against their opponents who were flustered by the swift conclusion of their first innings. Sri Lankan spin ace Dilruwan Perera came into the party in the second innings as he lead the way with the ball rattling Moors’ with figures of 4/25. Right arm seamer, Nisal Tharaka aided with a handy 3/29 as Moors ones again collapsed under pressure. Former Anandian, Sachithra Perera showed some fight for the visiting side with a half century but couldn’t stop the inevitable downfall.
Colts’ managed to wrap up Moor’s second innings for a disappointing 132 in 32.1 overs ending the tournament opener in two days handing an imposing win for Colts CC with a day to spare.
