St. Joseph’s College went to take on St. Peter’s College at the 90th edition of the Battle of the Saints at SSC grounds today (22nd of March) in Day 01 action. Lahiru Amarasekara, the skipper of St. Joseph’s College, won the toss and chose to field first, inviting the Peterites to put runs on the board.

Oween Salgoda and Dilana Damsara put up a mammoth partnership for the first wicket of 108 to give the boys from Bambalapitiya a solid start. Dilina Damsara scored his maiden big match century today, scoring 103 runs from 150 deliveries. It was included with 8 fours and 4 sixers in his innings. Oween just fell short of a big match half-century at 46 runs.
After batting 60 overs as per instructions, Peterites went to declaration at 270 runs for the loss of 9 wickets for their 1st innings. Yenula Dewthusa of St. Joseph’s College bowled a brilliant spell of 4 wickets for 74 runs after bowling 18 overs with an economy of 4.11. Maanasa Madubashana supported him from the other end, taking 3 wickets for 69 runs.
Josephians scored 91 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in their first innings on Day 01 of the Battle of the Saints after playing for 22.3 overs. The play was stopped due to bad light. Hiran Jayasundara scored a quick half-century to end the day, scoring 53 off 61 balls, which included 3 sixers so far. Jayaweera and Jayasundara are to continue the Josephian innings from tomorrow onwards at SSC grounds. Joshua Sebastian was the only wicket taker for St. Peter’s at Day 01.
