The MAS Annual Novices Boxing Championships for the coveted Dian Gomes Challenge Trophy will take place for the first time in the Pallekele, Linea Boxing Stadium during 9th and 10th May 2012.

The third consecutive tournament for young male and female boxers of MAS will be a stepping stone for the ABA Novices to be held later this year. The General Manager, Linea Clothing & Linea Intimates , Mr. Rohan Daulagala will be the Chief Guest at the finals  on Thursday the 10th May during the medal awarding ceremony.

MAS Holdings as a group has over 90 young boxers who will vie for the medals in their weight categories while representing their respective clubs.  Eight such clubs will field both male and female pugilists who have been training for the tournament since 2011.

The 2011 winners, men’s – Silueta Boxing Club and women’s – Linea Clothing Boxing Club will have intense competition from 2010 winners, men’s – Slimline Boxing Club and Women’s – Silueta Boxing Club as well as the newly emerging MDS  Boxing Club for places in the individual weight categories.

The MAS Novices boxing meet has given young and talented Boxers in the private sector group an opportunity to train for and achieve a standard parallel to the best in Sri Lanka. MAS Holdings will continue to scout for young talent in rural schools in the vicinity of their 38 strong manufacturing facilities all over the country, employing over 40,000 persons. In addition to lucrative employment these youngsters will be able to train with the best in Sri Lanka to finally compete at International meets. Sport in all forms is considered a virtue in the MAS Holdings group while boxing has become the favorite under the tutelage of former Sri Lankan Boxer Dian Gomes, the Managing Director of MAS Intimates. 

Though the business ventures of MAS Holdings, individually or as a group does not benefit with local publicity for marketing or sales of their products, (made for many high-end American and European lingerie, active-wear and casual-wear brands), within the country, the group has certainly contributed to the enhancement of talent of many sportsmen and women of Sri Lanka in addition to contributing to the various sports development. The group will continue their support toward all endeavors by young Sri Lankan individuals and look forward to many more competitions especially in Boxing in the future.
