Rangana Herath and Kumar Sangakkara won top honours at the Dialog Sri Lanka Cricket Awards 2013 held at the Water’s Edge yesterday.
Kumar Sangakkara was unsurprisingly adjudged the best Test Batsman of the year, and also claimed the award for the Peoples Player of the year once again proving he was the darling of his countrymen.
Rangana Herath was adjudged “Cricketer of the year”, and few will begrudge Sri Lanka’s perennial workhorse his title. Herath was also adjudged best Test bowler.
In the limited overs department, TM Dilshan was adjudged “Best Batsman”, while Lasith Malinga won “Best Bowler.” Test and ODI captain Angelo Mathews was adjudged best all rounder. National T20 captain Dinesh Chandimal walked away with the award for “Best emerging player”.
For the first time, a “Women’s cricketer of the year” award was introduced, and Women’s skipper Shashikala Siriwardene became the first player to win it. She was also adjudged the best ODI all rounder, while Deepika Asangika and Chamini Senavirathne were named best batswoman and best bowler respectively.
