Galle beat Jaffna by 8 wickets in the 17th match of the Dialog-SLC National Super League 2022, which concluded today at Pallekele. The other match, which was scheduled to be played between Kandy and Dambulla, got called off due to rain at Dambulla.
Galle vs Jaffna
Having won the toss, Galle Skipper Akila Dananjaya invited Jaffna to take the first lease of the wicket at Pallekele. The experienced campaigners Dhananjaya De Silva and Lahiru Thirimanne rose to the occasion, scoring vital knocks as Jaffna posted a competitive 272 for 5 in 46 overs, before the rain halted the play at Pallekele.
The Skipper De Silva stroked a magnificent century, while Thirimanne contributed with 85 runs for Jaffna. Due to the rain, Galle was set a revised target of 197 runs in 25 overs. It was a tough ask on paper, but thanks to the brilliant batting efforts from Pabasara Waduge and Dhananjaya Lakshan, Galle managed to cross over the line in the 22nd over with 8 wickets in hand.
Waduge top scored with 92 runs off 70 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes while Lakshan supported him at the other end scoring 70 runs off 44 balls which included 11 fours and a six.
