On the opening day of the Dialog-SLC National Super League 2022, Colombo fought against Galle at the SSC grounds while Jaffna and Dambulla locked horns at P. Sara Oval to get the tournament underway.
Colombo vs Galle
Having won the toss, Colombo chose to bat first on an even SSC surface. It was a forgettable outing for the Colombo batters as they were bundled out for just 213 runs.
Opener Krishan Sanjula topped the batting card for the Colombo team with 46 runs. The right-hander got off to a troubled start, finding it difficult to get bat on the ball against some quality outswingers from Dhananjaya Lakshan, but managed to see it through.
Kusal Mendis did give an explosive start to the Colombo team by scoring a stroke-filled 37 runs in 27 deliveries. He started off with a pull over square leg for a six and got into form in no time, but failed to capitalize on the start he got.
The pick of the bowling for Galle was Maheesh Theekshana, who has been the highlight of many bowling cards recently. He picked up 3 wickets with yet another economical spell.
All these performances were easily overtaken by the right-handed middle-order batsman, Priyamal Perera, who staged a match-winning knock of 98 runs and remained unbeaten for Galle. He certainly lifted the team from a dangerous position to victory.
From 93 for 5, an outstanding partnership between Perera and Ramesh Mendis took the Galle team home comfortably.

Jaffna vs Dambulla
This encounter barely lasted any time as Jaffna absolutely demolished the Dambulla team with the ball. Batting first, Jaffna made 255 runs in their innings. Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva led the batting with a stylish 69 runs with some handsome boundary hitting.
A run-a-ball 44 from the experienced Ishan Jayaratne in the lower-middle order gave the Jaffna boys enough to defend confidently.
The confidence was abundantly visible in their bowling as they bundled out the Dambulla batters for just 79 runs.
It was impossible to keep DDS out of the game today, as he kicked back into the party with his off-spin too. He picked 3 quick wickets in just 4 overs, and gave away only 5 runs in his spell.
Add to this 2 wickets apiece from Dilum Sudeera, Jeffrey Vandersday and Ishan Jayaratne, and it was curtains for the Dambulla team. They were uprooted for just 79 runs in the 26th over of the chase.
