Dialog Schools Rugby League 2024 – Division 1 Segment ‘A’ Fixtures Confirmed

The much-anticipated Dialog Schools Rugby League 2024, organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA), will begin on the 14^th of June at Havelock with 16 teams in the Division 1 – Segment ‘A’, competing for the ultimate prize in the Schools Rugby arena in the island.

The first-round matches will be played from 14^th June to 28^th July, followed by the super-round matches from 10^th to 18^th August. After the first-round matches, the teams qualified for the super round will have a rest week.

All 16 teams, including the newcomers – Thurstan College, Colombo, and Sri Sumangala, Kandy – have been seeded into two groups of 8. Each team will play seven games in the first round and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the super-round, from which the League champions will emerge. After the super round is concluded, the Knockout competition for the ‘A’ Division – President’s Trophy will also be worked out. The fixtures and venues of the super round will be decided after the first round is completed.

Dialog Schools Rugby League 2024 – Division 1 – Segment ‘A’ Groups

Last year, St. Peter’s College emerged as the Champions, followed by Isipathana College, Royal College, and St. Anthony’s College, Kandy – the four teams that competed in the super round of the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2023. St. Peter’s College bagged the President’s Trophy Knockout Championship as well in 2023.

Earlier in the year, St. Peter’s College emerged as the winner of the Dialog Schools Rugby Sevens 2024, defeating Royal College in the Final.

Therefore, St. Peter’s College will once again start as pre-tournament favourites along with the likes of Isipathana College and Royal College. Watch out for teams such as Trinity College, S. Thomas’ College, D. S. Senanayake College, and Wesley College, all of who can be serious contenders as the season commences.

In a bid to improve the quality, discipline, and players’ safety at the upcoming Dialog Schools Rugby League and Knockout tournaments, the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) has appointed an Independent Technical Advisory Committee with the facilitation of Dialog Axiata PLC. Comprising of esteemed professionals, the committee will focus on uplifting the standards to create a level playing field, bringing a professional outlook in the conduct of the tournament.
