A superlative second half of 41 points ensured that Royal College continued their winning moment as they handed a heavy defeat for the high flying Zahira College outfit 44 points to 03 in their Dialog Schools Rugby League 2023 encounter, worked off at Royal complex.

The first half began with a Royal attacking onslaught, but the brave defensive work from Zahira College ensured that no points were scored in the first thirteen minutes of the game.

Royal finally got their reward for the attacking pressure through a Simak Shafeek penalt to break the deadlock. (RC 03 – 00 ZC)

Royal seemed caught off guard by Zahira’s kicking game as they played some expansive Rugby near their own try line, as they gave away an easy penalty in front of sticks to Zahira with Ahamad Saad adding the three easy points. (RC 03 – 03 ZC)

Royal were brighter after the break and finally got going when Simak Shafeek stroked over his second penalty to take their lead back. A few phases, later a wonderful passing move was capped off when Disas Pathirana went in to the corner for the first try off the game.

The momentum continued for Royal as Kavinash Srikanth managed to shrug off the attention of a number of defenders to go over for the second try. (RC 16 – 03 ZC)

Tries kept on coming for the Royalist as Ayyash Shiyam’s timely offload to Thanvir Hassen was good enough to send him under the post, while Shimak added the two points with ease.

Charuka Senevirathne was next to crash over in the corner for the bonus point try for Royal, with Nabeel Yahiya converting from a difficult angle. (RC 30 – 03 ZC)

During the final minutes of the game, Royal went into overdrive with two quick tries as Akram Faruk scored from close range after some big carries. Disas Pathirana spotted a gap to race over for the second time in the game. Yahiya landed both conversions to conclude a fascinating second half show for the host as they clinched their third straight win.
