Week 6 Review – Champions League 2016

DCL Week 7 live Matches

Group A

Crystal Palace FC vs Civil Security SC (31st July at Jayatillake Stadium Nawalapitiya at 3:30pm)

Crystal Palace know that their Super 8 chances hang by a thread following a calamitous 4-0 bashing at home by Negombo Youth.

This week’s opponents however offer them the perfect chance to get back to winning ways, as the already relegated Civil Security team visit Nawalapitiya.

Colombo FC vs Up Country Lions (31st July at City League Football Complex at 3:30pm)

Colombo FC are in full flow and are almost sure of qualification for the Super 8s from Group A, and this week they face a visit from a team that have a chance at a maiden Super 8 appearance.

The Lions would likely settle for a point against the defending champions with next week’s clash against Blue Star more likely to decide their Super 8 fate.

Blue Star SC vs Matara City (31st July at Vernon Fernando Stadium Kalutara at 3:30pm)

Blue Star come up against opposition that know that wins and only wins can save them from relegation, making for a tricky encounter at the Vernon Fernando Stadium in Kalutara.

Blue Star need a win themselves if they are to firm up their bid for Super 8 qualification in what should prove to be an entertaining encounter.

Group B

Java Lane SC vs New Youngs SC (30th July at City League Football Complex at 3:15pm)

Java Lane are faced with the possibility of being relegated from the top flight unless they can come up with wins from their last 2 fixtures. Their opponents this week are the high flying New Youngs, who suffered just their second defeat of the season last week against Air Force.

A win for New Youngs will guarantee qualification for the Super 8s as they are the firm favourites to beat Thihariya Youth in the final Game Week.

Navy SC vs Air Force SC (31st July at Navy Grounds Welisara at 3:15pm)

A blockbuster clash between two forces teams vying for Super 8 qualification.

A draw wouldn’t help either team much, with Super Sun and Saunders breathing down the necks of the two teams, so expect both teams to play for a result.

Saunders themselves would be hoping for a win for Air Force as they can then take control of their fate in their game against Navy.

Renown SC vs Police SC (30th July at Kelaniya Football Complex at 3:30pm)

Renown come into the fixture after registering the biggest win of the tournament so far, a 9-1 battering of the relegation threatened Thihariya Youth.

Police on the other hand do not look like they will make the cut for the next stage of the competition and will be looking to consolidate their mid table position.

Renown go in firm favourites to pick up all three points.

Thihariya Youth SC vs Saunders SC (31st July at Kelaniya Football Complex at 3:30pm)

Saunders seemed to find their feet again after the 4-2 win over Java Lane two weeks ago.

They need to beat their battered hosts Thihariya Youth, who will be low on confidence with relegation all but certain for them as things stand.

Saunders should, and need to, pick up all three points.
