Dharmasoka Thurstan College in a high scoring draw

Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda and Thurstan College figured in a high scoring draw in their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which concluded at the Galle Stadium today.

 

After Thurstan College had piled up a formidable 275 for 9 wickets in their first innings the Sokians responded magnificently while amassing a hufe 301 for 9 wickets in reply.

The match also turned out to a memorable game for three promising cricketers Sajith Gunatilleke, Kavindu Kulasekera and Ramesh Mendis who were able to make a strong impact throughout the encounter.

In fact Thurstan College opening batsman Sajith Gunatilleke took the maximum opportunities to prove his potential by stroking a splendid hundred in the first innings and then followed up with a fighting half century in the second innings.

His teammate Kavindu Kulasekera also grabbed the opportunity to make a significant impact with the bat as he went on to complete twin half centuries while making 52 and 54 not out in the two innings respectively.

The only bowler to shine in this game was Dharmasoka’s Ramesh Mendis who bowled his heart out to return career best figures of eight wickets eight wickets for 90 runs.

His effort was even more significant considering the fact that this game was completely dominated by the batsmen where more than seven hundred runs were accumulated during the two days.
