Devapathiraja College, Rathgama won the under 17 all-island girls cricket tournament beating Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda by 88 runs in the final played today at Thurstan grounds.
Batting first, Devapathiraja slammed a massive 171 runs in 29.4 overs. Kaveesha Dilhari was the top run-scorer with 52 while Sathya Sandeepani and Teleshiya Chathurangi chipped in with 30 and 29 respectively. Janadi Anali was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 wickets while Amasha Perera and Kavindya Dewmini took 2 wickets apiece.
Chasing a massive target of 172, the school from Nugegoda was bowled out for a mere 83 within 23 overs. Sathya Sandeepani backed up her batting performance by taking a four-wicket haul for just 11 runs. Sewwandi Kumarage was the only batswomen to reach above 20.
Earlier, Gothami Vidyalaya defeated Vijayabahu MMV, Okkampitiya by 77 runs to secure the 3rd place in the tournament.
