Emerging teams Asia Cup champions of the last two consecutive years, Sri Lanka will depart on 12th November for this year’s tournament which will be held in Bangladesh from November 14th to 23rd.

The 4th edition of the tournament will see Under-23 teams of five Test nations from Asia (Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan) battling it out with the national teams of Hong Kong, Oman and Nepal for the championship. UAE was supposed to take part in this tournament, but they pulled out without stating any official reasons making way for Nepal.

The Sri Lanka team will be led by 22-year-old Charith Asalanka who also captained Sri Lanka to the championship in 2018. Sri Lanka Cricket have announced a strong squad for this tournament with the likes of Kamindu Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, Asitha Fernando and Amila Aponsu included. There are 7 players out of the 15-man squad who were part of the last year’s Asia Emerging Cup. The squad will have a huge task defending the Trophy for the 2nd time.

Speaking to the media, Charith Asalanka said, “We have done really well in this tournament in the past and we won the last Emerging Asia Cup as well. I have a skilled team and we practiced hard for this tournament. I think we can win the Emerging Asia Cup this time too”
The squad is coached by veteran fast bowler Chaminda Vaas and he stated that past experiences in Bangladesh will be handy in this tournament. “We have toured Bangladesh a few months ago and the boys competed really well there. Those experiences will help this bunch in the coming tournament. There are a few players who are vying for a chance in the senior setup. This will be a golden opportunity for those players to polish their skillset”
