Former Sri Lanka goalkeeper and current Blue Star skipper was nothing short of brilliant against the defending champions, Colombo FC. Made two crucial point blank range saves from Afis Olayemi in either half and apart from a rare misjudgment, he was an inspiration to the rest of the team
Continuing his good form from the FA Cup, Priyadarshana was once again consistent in defense and joins well with the attack in crucial moments. In one such moment, he provided the assist for the Mohamed Fazal winner, against Saunders SC, in the 89 th minute.
The tall lanky African led the defensive line well with comfortably negotiating the set-piece threat and was an ever present figure in attacking set pieces, along with a clean sheet which enabled Blue Star continue their 2 year unbeaten streak at home. Provided the flicked header deep into injury time which was handled by Rawme Mohideen and given a penalty.
A rock at the back for Navy in the match against Super Sun. He was instrumental in shutting down attacks and combined well with his defensive partner. Had a clean sheet as well.
Played at centre-back in the match against Matara City but can play at left back as he has shown in the last season. Conceded only one goal but scored one himself on the other end.
Newly appointed Solid SC skipper, led from the front and was disruptive in midfield with his strength and passing. Scored the opener in first half injury time.
Brought his ‘A’ game against Renown SC in the DCL16 opener as he did in the FA Cup semi-final but was again unfortunate to be on the losing side. He did not let Renown settle into their passing game and was a constant menace in midfield. His crucial tackle led to the opening goal.
Played in his suitable midfield position, Chathuranga showed his best against Super Sun with a goal and an assist. His industry was a key characteristic.
One of the key figures in Crystal Palace’s Super 8 run last year, started off this year’s campaign with two goals. His runs into the box and passing from midfield was a highlight.
Played at right wing where he showed his good form and after he was shifted into a more central position late in the match was able to score the winner.
Scored twice for the visiting side at Police Park where his powerful runs and good partnership with Ankamah George was a standout. Showed his aerial prowess with a headed goal in the first half.
