The second day of the Ritzbury Sir John Tarbet Junior Athletics Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association under the sponsorship of Ritzbury Chocolates was held today (04th of November) 2023 at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
After a day of thrilling battle of races, The athletes were able to break five new meet records on the second day, showing their tremendous skills.
Senura Costa of St. Thomas Christ School, Seeduwa was able to win the under-15 boys 800m event setting the first record of the day with a time of 2:01.01 minutes. Senura managed to perform very well in this tournament and it was notable that he managed to win the under-15 boys 200m race held shortly after the 800m event.
M.N. Darmadasa of Mawanella Sujatha Vidyalaya representing the under 14 years category in the girls’ 600m event broke the meet record in the event by finishing the race with a time of 1:42.6 minutes.
M. C. Rajasinghe of Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa set a new meet record with a performance of 55.70 meters in the under-14 boys’ javelin event. Also, he was able to break his age group record for the shot putt event as well which was held yesterday. In the same age category, A. Samasthi of Wattala OKI International School broke the record for girls’ javelin throw as she made 31.10m throw.
Apart from these competitions, the 200m event and 4×100m relay event of the boys’ and girls’ categories were able to grab a lot of attention from the spectators today.
