Trials for the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup (formerly known as Fed Cup) will take place at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association from the 19th of April onwards.
The Davis Cup 2021 Asia/Oceania Group 3 will be held from the 16th – 19th June in Vietnam. Trials to determine this years’ team that represents Sri Lanka will take place mid-April with the top 8 rankers of Sri Lanka Men’s Tennis.
The Ladies championship, once called Fed Cup now the Bille Jean King Cup, will also play off from the 22nd – 26th June in Malaysia. Top 8 ranking Ladies will fight for the 3 spots that qualify to represent Team Sri Lanka at the championship. Trials will take place from the 19th of April.
Jayasuriya and Knese crowned SSC Open Champs
At the 2020 World Group II Play off’s, the National Men’s team of Sri Lanka suffered a disappointing loss to Paraguay in the latter’s home ground 4 – 0. With this loss, Sri Lanka was demoted back to Group III for the year 2021.
At the Group III play-offs, three nations will advance to contest in the 2022 World Group II Play-offs. Nations competing this year include Hong Kong, China, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Pacific Oceania, Qatar, Syria, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Philippines was originally mixed in the draw but withdrew from the tournament and will forego their chance to qualify to World Group II.
The Group III play-offs will commence on the 16th of June at the Hai Dang Tennis Club.
Clay Court Nationals 2020 commences
The championship formerly known as the Fed Cup, will roll out its first turn as the Bille Jean King Cup this year with the Ladies team of Sri Lanka competing in the World Group II play-offs.
Eight nations will join hosts Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur: Cambodia, Hong Kong, Iran, Oman, Pacific Oceania, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan and Vietnam. In Kuala Lumpur, nine teams will compete across 2 pools (Pools A & B). The winners of each pool will play-off to determine which nation will advance to Asia/Oceania Group I.
The Group II play-offs will commence on the 22nd of June at the National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia.
