Davis Cup Action – Sri Lanka v Vietnam

The all-important Davis Cup Asia Oceania Zone group 11 tie between Sri Lanka and Vietnam is scheduled to take place on the 4th,5th and 6th of April at the 198 Tennis club in Da Lat City Vietnam. The countries will face off in a relegation play off that will determine which country remains in Group 11 and which country gets demoted to Group 111.

Sri Lanka lost to the top seeds  Philippines in their first round encounter whereas Vietnam were ousted by Pakistan which is what led to these two nations having to face each other in this relegation battle.

There will be one change made to the Sri Lankan team that took on the Philippines in February. The experienced Rajeev Rajapakse will be replaced by a talented an upcoming player by the name of Amresh Jayawickrama. The rest of the team comprises the dependable Harshana Godamanna, Dineshkanthan Thangarajah and the young gun Sharmal Dissanayake. The team will be led by former Davis Cup player Rohan De Silva who will serve as the non  playing captain.

The Vietnamese team will be represented by the likes of Thien Nguyen Hoang, Minh – Quan Do, Quoc- Khanh Le and Linh Giang Trinh. Minh- Quan Do will add value to the team by serving as the playing captain.

Both teams are evenly matched and the tie is expected to go down to the wire as both teams are guaranteed to grind it out on court in order to ensure their survival in the Asia Oceania Zone Group 11 stage.
