Asia Cup winning captain Dasun Shanaka praised the media for supporting him and the national team over the years.
Shanaka said that the media helped him to make a name for himself in the public when nobody knew about him.“I must thank the media for the support given to me to come this far as a player. I remember when I scored a century in a T20 match for SSC with 16 sixes, the media brought it up and showed the world who I was. Until then many people didn’t know my name as a cricketer” Shanaka said.

“There had been some issues for me with the media, but I had never said no to the media. I had always answered any questions raised by media related to cricket. On behalf of the team, I would like to thank the media for the support given to us and expect the media will continue to support us in future as well,” Shanaka added.
Shanaka also urged the media to give more coverage to domestic cricket in Sri Lanka in order to let the public know the talents of young cricketers in the country. He further requested the media to bring up constructive criticisms on the players and highlight which areas need to be improved with proper analysis
