Sri Lanka A tour starts with a huge loss in Jamaica
West Indies “A” registered a massive victory by an innings and 13 runs in their 1st…
Following a heavy defeat in the first game, the visitors needed to put up a much-improved performance. After electing to bat first, Sri Lanka ‘A’ lost both their young openers, Sandun Weerakkody and Ron Chandragupta cheaply as seamer Keon Joseph struck early for the hosts,
Skipper Dhananjaya De Silva continuing his good form made a stylish 89-ball 73 to set the foundation for the visitors while vice-captain Charith Asalanka and experienced campaigner Roshen Silva chipped in with 41 and 30 respectively.
Shanaka, batting at number 7 added 105 runs along with Silva as they resurrected the Lankan innings after they lost half of their side for just 137 runs. Shanaka was left wondering as he lost partners from the other end but managed to remain unbeaten on 102 from 108 balls with 5 fours and 8 sixes.
Shanaka’s superlative knock enabled Sri Lanka ‘A’ to post 294 for their first innings. In reply, the Windies were 14 for 2 in 10 overs at close of play with spin twins, Malinda Pushpakumara and Shehan Jayasuriya sharing a wicket each.
