In a Governor’s Cup match worked off recently, Unichela CC was found guilty of playing a non-registered player at the De Soysa Stadium on 10th and 11th of November 2018 in their encounter against Nugegoda S & WS, the petitioner in the case. The player concerned had represented Kandy Sports Club in the Inter Provincial and Governor’s Trophy Tournaments during the same season (2017/18). Accordingly, Nugegoda S&WS fought for an interim order since they were not promoted to the Major Club Tier B Division from the Governor’s cup.

Unichela were fined a sum of Rs. 50,000/- before SLC announced the result as a no-decision which deprived Nugegoda from heading the points table.

In a similar incident in the Sara Trophy match between Negombo CC and Sebastianites C&AC, the latter was found guilty of playing unqualified players in their playing XI while on that occasion the match was awarded to Negombo CC.
