‘Singer Cup’ Under 13 Division 1 Inter Schools Cricket Tournament. D.S. Senanayake College Colombo emerged champions of the ‘Singer Cup’ Under 13 division 1 inter schools cricket tournament, conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, sponsored Singer Sri Lanka PLC Ltd yesterday, at Wesley College grounds.
D.S. Senanayake College Colombo won the game against Mahinda College Galle in the final. The victory was based on points since both teams failed to secure either a first innings or outright victory.
Mahinda Galle won the toss and elected to field which turned out to be a bad decision at the end of the day as D.S. Senanayake scored a total of 241 runs for 9 wickets in 41.1 overs.
Ruchira Theekshana top scored for the DS youngsters with 56 runs while Deshan Hettige supported Theekshana with 47 runs. Gaviru Shenash (39) and Koshika Fernando (33) held the innings together and helped build it to a respectable total. Savindya Ranmina was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets. Hiruna Mandila and Adeesha Sandalindu chipped in with 2 wickets each.
Mahinda College Galle scored 40 runs for 1 wicket in 14 overs at close. Match was called off earlier due to bad light with Chandupa De Silva stranded unbeaten at 17 runs.
