GROUP A
Pos | Team | Matches | W | L | N/R | Tied | N/RR | Points |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
3 | Australia | 3 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | -0.99 | 2 |
2 | Bangladesh | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0.00 | 3 |
1 | England | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1.04 | 6 |
4 | New Zealand | 3 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 0 | -1.05 | 1 |
England – The hosts have already qualified for the final four after their comprehensive win over the Kiwis. Thus, England have secured 4 points, maintaining their unbeaten record.
The only thing left to decide when it comes to England is whether they top the group. If England loses their game against Australia, they have to make sure their NRR doesn’t fall below Australia’s, to top the group in order to meet the second placed team from group ‘B’.
Australia – An Australian victory over England is the preferred, and easiest, option for the two time champions. However, the unpredictable weather does leave one other route open. Washouts in the remaining two games in group ‘A’ would mean that Australia go through to the semis without a single completed game.
If Australia lose their last game, minimizing the victory margin (having a better net run-rate than Bangladesh), they still can go through if the game between New Zealand, Bangladesh is a washout.
Australia also have the opportunity to top the group if they beat England by a considerable margin.

Bangladesh – Even if the Tigers win their remaining game against New Zealand, they must hope that Australia loses to England in the last game of group ‘A’ on Saturday.
If the England-Australia tie happens to be a washout, Bangladesh must make sure that their net run-rate is superior to the Aussies to guarantee qualification IF the Tigers beat New Zealand in their final group ‘A’ clash.
If their game against New Zealand is a washout, and Australia lose to England by a considerable margin (Australian NRR dropping less than -0.407), Bangladesh will go through to the semis with the best NRR among the three teams with two points each. Which means Bangladesh will qualify to the semi-finals with two washouts and a loss in the group stage.
New Zealand – The easiest way for the Kiwis to go through is, if England beats Australia and they overcome Bangladesh in their final group game.
However, if the England-Australia game happens to be a washout, New Zealand must make sure they beat Bangladesh by a healthy margin to have a positive net run-rate since the Australian net run-rate will be zero.
