The Sri Lanka national cricket team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 returned from England today(14). Spearhead Lasith Malinga who had an average tour was also a part of the head table and addressed the media at a press conference held at the Sri Lanka Cricket premises.
Is Sri Lanka the ‘World’s worst fielding side’?
Lasith Malinga was in the focus as there were rumors on his retirement from International cricket, but he confirmed, in typical Malinga style that he will continue to turn up in Sri Lankan colours as long as the selectors pick him.
“I am happy to continue for as long as the management and the captain want me on the park and it’s a decision totally up to them which I will be respectful to” said Malinga with a questioning glance at his head table.
“I am not the same bowler that I used to be. It’s very obvious that age has caught up with me and my pace has dropped. But I still believe I have got what it takes to perform for Sri Lanka to the best of my ability as long as the selectors pick me” replied the legend when questioned about his fitness and future plans.

Malinga also expressed his views on the concluded Champions Trophy and pointed out no single player was to be blamed for their performances and the whole team needs to take responsibility for the group stage exit.
“We as cricketers know that even the best fielders in the world drop catches. The matches weren’t lost just on those dropped chances. I have dropped catches in the past and that’s a part and parcel of the game that we have to accept.”
