The felicitation for the indomitable Up Country Lions for their astounding success at the recently concluded Inter Club Rugby sevens where they swept aside stiffer and more experienced competition to win the title was held at the Water’s Edge.
The event sponsored by Crysbro who are also the sponsors of Upcountry Lions was ceremoniously lifted off in the prestigious presence of the Honrable Minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Coach Inthi Marikkar, Upcountry Lions chairman Chanuka Rathwatte, Amoriss Seller, Marketing Manager, Crysbro and many more.
Crysbro, who have been employed in encouraging rugby in the central region, secured the sponsorship of the Up country lions for the second time in 2013. During this tenure the Upcountry lions have done their sponsor proud by securing the Inter Club Rugby Sevens organized by Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union maintaining an unbeaten run throughout the tournament.
Upcountry Lions which was developed as a 40 member squad has been coached by Mr. Inthi Marikkar while Mr. Chanuka Ratwatte is the Chairman with Mr. Hassen Sinhawansha playing the role of Manager. The unbeatable team is strengthened by national players of Rugby 7s and 15s teams. Also some outstanding foreign players from New Zealand and junior national club players bring glory to the team
Since 2012, Up country lions have triumphed in the semifinals and were placed 4th in the A division tournament in 2012.
