It rained tries on a rainy day, as CR&FC managed to rack up a 81-10 victory over rivals CH&FC at the Royal Complex on Saturday (30th November).

The Longden Place boys had no mercy, as they managed to break their try scoring hoodoo, after going 160 minutes without scoring a single try in this seasons Dialog Rugby League.

It was a must-win game for CR&FC against their rivals from Maitland Crescent as both teams were yet to notch a win in the Dialog Rugby League. The game which was played at the Royal Sports Complex was plagued with heavy torrential rains right throughout as the ground conditions deteriorated drastically as the game continued.

It was CR&FC who opened the scoring, and consolidated their position early in the game. CH barely had the ball in the first half, as the Longden Place boys thrived on the wet ground conditions, as they managed to squirm their way through tackles, and score seven tries out of which six were converted magnificently by former Royal Captain and Flyhalf Rimze Jamaldeen.

Play was halted in between the first half, due to the rain as CH managed to score a solitary penalty on the stroke of half time.

Apart from the torrential rains, it continued to rain in tries as well as CR ran riot in the second half scoring another six before the final whistle. CH only managed to find solace in a solitary try through Chanaka Bandara with Indika Wikramanayake adding the extra points.

At full time, CR managed to record a thumping 81-10 victory over their rivals courtesy of three tries from centre Lafaele Va’a who was the stand out player for the red-shirts. Wishwamithra Jayasinghe and Tita Semeane scored a double, while Hasthika Banadranayake, Gayan Liyanage, Dinesh Lakshan, Dushyanth Lewke, Heshan Gunarathne and Rahul de Silva scoring a try each.
