Dinesh Chandimal, Wanindu Hasaranga and Sachithra Senanayake starred for Colombo in a resounding win while Dambulla snatched a thrilling win from the jaws of defeat in the 3rd match day of the SLC Super Provincial Limited Over Tournament 2017 which worked off today.

Colombo vs Kandy
Colombo registered their first win in the SLC Super Provincial Tournament 2017 when they thumped Kandy by 106 runs in their match played at NCC Grounds.
After opting to bat first on a scorching day, Colombo openers, Dilshan Munaweera and Lahiru Thirimanne got off to a rollicking start as they added 86 runs for the first wicket before the former holed out to deep mid-wicket after a stunning 52 off 55 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Shehan Jayasuriya and Kithruwan Vithanage made identical scores of 12 while Thirimanne made a commendable 49 off 72 with 3 fours before being castled by Ramith Rambukwella. Skipper Dinesh Chandimal and youngster Wanindu Hasaranga constructed a valuable 103-run stand for the 5th wicket to take Colombo past 250.
Chandimal top scored with a fine 76 off 77 deliveries with 5 delicate fours and 2 giant sixes. Former Richmondite Hasaranga made 5 fours during his 44-ball 49. Both batsmen fell in search of quick runs in the final few overs as Colombo posted a reasonable 288 from their allotted 50 overs. Seamer Nuwan Pradeep starred with 3 wickets from his 10 overs while off-spinner Charith Asalanka grabbed 2 wickets.

Chasing a stiff target of 289 runs, Kandy lost both their openers, Mahela Udawatte and Danushka Gunathilaka inside the first five overs as Colombo used their spinners in the first powerplay itself. Angelo Perera held onto two brilliant catches off Wanindu Hasaranga as Kandy was restricted to 66 for 5 in 15 overs.
Skipper and in-form Chamara Kapugedara together with Sachith Pathirana gave some hope for the Kandyans with a fighting partnership of 74 for the 6th wicket but the spin-heavy Colombo bowling came back to bundle out their opponents in 38 overs for just 182 runs.
Kapugedara managed 3 fours during his knock of 36 while Pathirana became the top scorer with 46 off 55 deliveries with 6 fours. Senanayake and leg-spinner Hasanga ended with 3 scalps each as Kandy suffered their first defeat in the tournament.

Galle vs Dambulla
Dambulla snatched a close one-wicket win over Galle in a nail-biting match at Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.

Needed 6 runs to win in the final over bowled by Seekkuge Prasanna, Dambulla last pair, Lahiru Kumara and Asitha Fernando sneaked through to victory in the last ball. Prasanna removed set pair, Dilruwan Perera and Nuwan Kulasekara in the first and fourth balls but the two youngsters managed to hold their nerve to get the hosts over the winning line.
Chasing 251 runs to win, Dambulla lost wickets at regular intervals as Harsha Cooray top scored for the winners with a fine 46 off 60 balls while Udara Jayasundera, Milinda Siriwardena and Ashan Priyanjan chipped in with valuable 30s.
Left-arm spin duo, Chathuranga De Silva and Malinda Pushpakumara were the most economical bowlers for the losing Galle outfit as they conceded only 83 off their 20 overs and picked up 2 wickets apiece as well.

Earlier, after being inserted to bat, Galle lost their young gun, Sadeera Samarawickrama in the 3rd over while the experienced duo, Dimuth Karunarathne and skipper Upul Tharanga got starts but failed to capitalize as they both succumbed to spin.
Galle middle order crumbled as a pack of cards as they were restricted to 97 for 6 in the 22nd over but Chathuranga De Silva and Seekkuge Prasanna resurrected the innings with a counterattacking 90 off 91 balls for the 7th wicket. De Silva struck 5 fours and 2 sixes during his 59-ball 56 while Prasanna did what he knows the best, score runs. He made 46 off 49 deliveries with 6 boundaries.
After being 192 for 8, Suranga Lakmal and Chamika Karunarathne added a quick-fire, vital 58 for the 9th wicket to push the Galle score to 250. Lahiru Kumara, Dilruwan Perera and Milinda Siriwardena grabbed 2 wickets apiece.
