Club Cricket Summary: SL Ports Authority complete 4 wins in 4 matches

Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC recorded their 4th outright win in 4 matches as the 5th week of the SLC Premier League Tournament 2014/15 ended with Tamil Union, NCC and SL Army joining the party with outright wins yet Kithuruwan Vithanage’s record-breaking 351 was the main highlight of the weekend. 

Front-runner SL Ports sitting pretty in the group B points table with 66 points while Moors SC closely behind on 64 points. Defending champions, NCC enjoy the top place in the group A with 79 points and dark horses of this season, Badureliya SC claiming the 2nd spot with 50 points under their name. 

The biggest highlight of the week was Tamil Union batsman Kithruwan Vithanage’s sparkling 351, which re-wrote the record book as the highest first class domestic score in Sri Lanka, erasing Thilina Kandamby’s 340 that was set two years ago. 

 

SL Ports Authority vs Chilaw Marians

Ashan Priyanjan and Dhananjaya De Silva slammed superb tons while Malinda Pushpakumara took a 10-wicket match bag as Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC completed a mammoth 215-run win over Chilaw Marians CC at R. Premadasa Stadium. 

SL Ports – 356 all out in 84.5 overs: Dhananjaya de Silva 156, Sachithra Serasinghe 85, Lahiru Gamage 6/97, Charith Rajapakshe 3/64.

Chilaw Marians – 226 all out in 57 overs: Shashrika Pussegolla 46, Malinda Pushpakumara 6/69.

SL Ports (2nd inn) – 250/3 declared in 58 overs: Ashan Priyanjan 150*, Sachithra Serasinghe 63.

Chilaw Marians (2nd inn) – 165 all out in 49.4 overs: Rohit Damodaran 34, Malinda Pushpakumara 4/57, Madusanka Ekanayake 2/29.

 

NCC vs Colts

The high-profile encounter between Nondescript Cricket Club and Colts Cricket club was won by the former by 70 runs at Havelock Town. Sandun Weerakkody’s century and half-century in the same match was the pick of the performances by both teams.

NCC – 338 all out in 75.2 overs: Sadun Weerakkody 108, Angelo Perera 58, Banuka Rajapakshe 4/59, Shehan Jayasuriya 2/29.

Colts – 245 all out in 60.1 overs: Roshen Silva 85, Angelo Jayasinghe 64, Chaminda Vidanapathirana 4/81 Tharindu Kaushal 3/62.

NCC (2nd inn) – 177 all out in 51 overs: Sandun Weerakkody 52, Dilruwan Perera 3/51, Ishan Jayarathne 4/52.

Tamil Union vs SL Air Force

Demoralized Airmen suffered an innings and 287-run win at the hands of Tamil Union after Kithruwan Vithanage’s magnificent century took the headlines at Katunayake. 

Tamil Union – 650/8 declared in 109.1 overs: Kithruwan Vithanage 351, Rumesh Buddika 105, Nisala Tharaka 68, Sameera Wanigasekara 3/115, Sohan Rangka 3/130.

Air Force SC – 167 all out in 39.2 overs: Akila Ishanka 66, Chanaka Welagedara 3/28 Chamikara Edirisinghe 4/51.

Air Force (2nd inn) – 196 all out in 58.4 overs: Lahiru Sri Lakmal 76, Chamikara Edirisinghe 4/45, Dinuk Wickramanayaka 5/37.

The CCC tail held on to salvage a draw against Moors SC as the hosts were only satisfied with first-innings points at Braybrooke Place.

Army SC hanged onto a close and well-contested 2-wicket win over the underdogs Saracens SC at Panagoda.

Former Josephian vice-captain Supeshala Jayathilake stroked two magnificent knocks of 60 and 48* to help Badureliya SC record first-innings win over Ragama CC at Bloomfield.
