Chilaw Marians, Army and Galle show dominance on day two

Here’s a wrap-up on the 2nd day’s play of the Super 8 and Plate matches which took place today in the SLC Tier A Premier League. 

Colts vs NCC 

Colts were in a spot of bother after losing 5 wickets in their 2nd innings against NCC at P. Sara Oval. Sadeera Samarawickrama was yet again amongst the runs at the top with a brilliant 64.

He and his opening partner Pasindu Lakshanka added 67 runs for the first wicket. Towards the later part of day 2 NCC tightened the screws and took 5 quick wickets to have their opponents reeling at 149 for 5 on stumps.

Early in the day, NCC posted 307 runs all out for their first innings in reply to Colts first innings total of 192. Angelo Perera, Anuk Fernando, Thimira Jayasinghe and Ramindu De Silva contributed with half centuries. Dilruwan Perera bagged a 6-for for CCC.

Ragama vs SSC

SSC were cruising at 332 for 9 on stumps on day 2 against Ragama today. SSC resumed play with 54 for 2. Kaushal Silva converted his overnight score of 19 to a well composed 74. Apart from Kaushal’s knock, there wasn’t much of a contribution from the top order as they were reduced to 166 for 6.

Luckily for SSC, the late middle order cashed in and saved their innings from collapsing. Sachithra Senanayake top scored with a quick fire 77 down the order which ultimately propelled SSC to 332 for 9 at stumps.

Early on, Ragama were bowled out for 220 with Vimukthi Perera taking a 5-for.

Chilaw Marians vs CCC 

Chilaw Marians were sitting comfortably with a healthy second innings lead of 237 runs against CCC at Kaluthara. CCC resumed play on the 2nd day with 122 for 5 on board. Madawa Warnapura was the lone warrior for CCC as they lost their last five wickets for just 78 runs. Thanks to Madawa’s knock of 71 they managed to post 190 for their first innings. Arosh Janoda and Malinda Pushpakumara bagged 3 wickets each for Chilaw.

Chilaw came on to bat for their second innings with a lead of 23 runs. Despite 2 early wickets, Sachithra Serasinghe and Vidura Adikari added 189 runs before the end of play. Both batsmen remained unbeaten on 93 and 87 respectively.

Early on Chilaw Marians were restricted for 213 runs with Lahiru Gamage taking 4 scalps.

Tamil Union vs Army 

Army dominated proceedings on the 2nd day against defending champions Tamil Union at SSC grounds. Army posted 383 runs for their first innings after cleaning up Tamil Union for just 174 runs on the first day. Leo Francisco top scored with 77 runs but the game changing innings came from Seekuge Prasanna who slammed 69 runs off just 58 balls. Jeewan Mendis was the pick of the bowlers for Tamil Union with 5 for 97.

At Stumps on day 2, Tamil Union was 72 for 3 in their second innings.

Bloomfield vs Saracens 

Bloomfield was 135 for 4 in their second innings against Saracens at Colts Grounds. Nipun Karunanayke top scored with 68 while Lahiru Jayakody chipped in with 34 runs. Kasun Rajitha was yet again lethal with the new ball taking 2 wickets up front.

Early on the day Saracens posted 351 runs in reply to the 207 which was posted by Bloomfield in their first innings. Harsha Cooray top scored with 95 while Milinda Siriwardane and Sangeeth Cooray scored half centuries. Malith De Silva was the pick of the bowlers for Bloomfield with 6 for 120.

BRC vs Badureliya

Badureliya batted through the day to reach 272 for 8 at stumps on day 2 against BRC at Panagoda. It wasn’t easy going for Badureliya but they soldiered on. Saliya Saman top scored with 66 while the other batsmen chipped in with valuable contributions. Thilakarathne Sampath was the pick of the bowlers with 5 for 67.

Early on, BRC made 357 with a brilliant century by Rumesh Buddika.

Moors vs Galle

Galle took honours on day 2 in their match against Moors at BRC grounds. They resumed play with 75 for 1. Minhaj Jaleel was the star with the bat for Galle. His knock of 77 was vital at the top while the rest of the top order apart from Dinuka Hunukumbura, failed to score big. Galle managed to post 310 for 9 before they declared.

At stumps on day 2, Moors were 26 for 1 in their second innings.
