Chetty fifty sets up South Africa win to take series victory

A hard earned 59 off 81 ball by Trisha Chetty helped South Africa Women to a 5 wicket win and with that the South African Women sealed the ODI series 2-1.

Put in to bat Sri Lanka Women got off to the worst possible start as the first 3 wickets fell for just 18 runs in 9 overs. Hasini Perera joined Captain Chamari Atapattu at the crease to add 30 runs for the 4th wicket.  Perera was the 4the wicket to fall for Sri Lanka as she was caught by Trisha Chetty off the bowling of Yolani Fourie.  

Sri Lanka Women never could have managed any momentum as South Africa kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. Ama Kanchana and Eshani Kaushalya built a valuable 35-run partnership for the 7th wicket which was the highest partnership of the Sri Lankan innings. Eshani Kaushalya’s hard earned 46 runs off 67 balls which included 3 fours and 2 sixes helped Sri Lanka Women to a low score of 137 for the loss of 10 wickets at the end of 44 overs. Shabnim Ismail, Marizanne Kapp, Yolani Fourie and Matshipi Marcia Letsoalo picked up 2 wickets each for South Africa.    

South African Women got off to a blistering start as they scored 34 runs in the first five overs. Lizelle Lee was the first to be dismissed for a run-a-ball 18. Making her debut Andrie Steyn used up 17 balls but only managed 3 runs as she was the second wicket to fall for South Africa Women.

South Africa were never in trouble even though Sri Lanka picked up 3 more wickets as Trisha Chetty’s valuable 59 runs off 81 balls helped South Africa secure the win in the fourth One Day International and with that the series win. Maduri Samuddika and Inoka Ranaweera picked 2 wickets each for Sri Lanka.
